‘What can we gain by sailing to the moon if we are not able to cross the abyss that separates us from ourselves? This is the most important of all voyages of discovery, and without it, all the rest are not only useless, but disastrous.’
Thomas Merton

The yacht photograph is by Zakhar Kleyman on Flickr, while the texture I have used in a ‘soft light’ blend (Photoshop) is by Kerstin Frank, also from Flickr. I’ve made it sound as if Flickr is a village!

  1. ” The abyss that separates us from ourselves.” Isn’t that an amazing phrase and concept. I happen to love boats and sailing, and have done quite a lot of both so this post was a lovely thing to see on a Saturday. I hope you have a lovely weekend 🙂

  2. I love the photo and the accompanying quote today, Sarah, as it’s perfect timing for a lecture I just heard from a wonderful teacher/philosopher/speaker named Jean Houston that touched upon the subject of untangling the complicated ideas of a ‘quantum soul.’
A great deal to think about, but your post today helped me to put it into a clearer (if not beautifully artistic) perspective.
    Lovely work–as always.
