Tell me and I’ll forget.
Show me, and I may not remember.
Involve me, and I’ll understand.

I adore this Native American quote because it shows how important it is for education to be involving and fun. To follow this in action, visit Jennie of A Teacher’s Reflections. She is a superb teacher who should be cloned throughout the world and I’ve told her so!

But you have no chocolate! I think of that again and again! My dear, how will you ever manage?”

Spring Passion would be suitable for any occasion, not least Valentine’s Day. Sometimes the simplest image is the best.

‘Trust in dreams, for in them is hidden the gate to eternity.’ Khalil Gibran

I took this view from one of my favourite vantage points in Bembridge before I went into hospital on the August Bank Holiday. I used a Chiaroscuro effect in Topaz Impression before processing in Photoshop by adding a Cheryl Tarrant texture in Multiply mode.

“There is no such thing as inner peace. There is only nervousness and death.”
― Fran Lebowitz

Be that as it may, the spot photographed is as near to external peace on my little island. Note how it’s suddenly ‘my’ island now that I’m living here! For those new to this blog, I’m talking about the Isle of Wight. Mind you, I probably said the same when I was still in Crete.

“Progress might have been alright once, but it has gone on too long.”

I’m taking a leaf (or should that be petal) out of photographer Leanne Cole’s book today and posting a vase of flowers for your delectation. This photograph is not for sale but I do have several flower pieces in the pipeline.

“I get out my work and have a show for myself before I have it publicly. I make up my own mind about it-how good or bad or indifferent it is. After that, the critics can write what they pleas…

You have no idea just how peachy it has been to create a piece of art with my new vision after spending so many months re-blogging earlier pieces and promoting those which have sold. My heart and soul are leaping with joy. Just as well in view of the unconscionable state prevailing in the UK after a general election. I am reminded of my favourite quote from erstwhile US President Jimmy Carter (and there are many to choose from) which says it all when one thinks of Prime Minister Theresa May’s parentage: the daughter of a vicar no less. “If you don’t want your tax dollars to help the poor, then stop saying you want a country based on Christian values because you don’t.’

The original is a photochrom from the Library of Congress of the entrance to the harbour at St. Malo in France taken between 1890 and 1900. I duplicated the image, ran the jpg through the Topaz Impressions Abstraction II filter, which I added as a third layer before topping with one of my yellow textures. I made use of a variety of Photoshop blends such as Darken, Lighter Colour and Screen.

Sigh no more, ladies, sigh no more,
Men were deceivers ever,

BENEDICK
I would my horse had the speed of your
tongue, and so good a continuer, but keep your
way, i’ God’s name, I have done.
BEATRICE
You always end with a jade’s trick. I know
you of old.

I’m delighted to have sold two of these greeting cards. It’s a montage of British actresses from the late 19th and early 20th century from my theatrical postcard collection. Those of you interested in theatre greats will be happy to learn that Dame Ellen Terry features three times, for which I make no apology! If young actors have not heard of her, they have no right to be on the stage. [Ed. Too obstinate?] As the late Alan Rickman said — and I’m oft repeating —  “The profession should be and is a kind of relay race – about information, opinions and passions being passed on.” [Theatregoer Magazine, November 2001]

Look at me, Ma — I have created something else out of The Fruit Look! A few subtractions, a few additions with the ephemera from Design Cuts and the Biodiversity Library on Flickr and I have done something different. It’s recycling if you will.
