FROM THE ARCHIVE 25th July 2015

When I reblog my posts, I try to leave a decent gap and hope to catch more recent followers who have not seen a piece before or to garner a new audience for a very old post when hardly anyone was following. Sailing to the Moon received a huge amount of likes and comments. I haven’t checked the statistics but I suspect it’s one of the most popular posts on First Night Design — very pleasing. I’m re-blogging it because I love it and I have nothing else to show!

‘What can we gain by sailing to the moon if we are not able to cross the abyss that separates us from ourselves? This is the most important of all voyages of discovery, and without it, all th…

Thank heavens it’s two years later and, as some of you know, I’ve now had that cataract operation!

FROM THE ARCHIVE 17th April 2013

A lovely customer has bought 30 of these invitations, which makes up for the cataract operation mentioned in the earlier post being cancelled.  Right…

I’m back on the moody and mysterious trail with Casanova’s Waterway. The original photograph of Venice, taken by Nick Scheerbart, is available for free from the Unsplash site, as are all the other photographs on this magnificent site for artists and designers.

My base layer (Normal mode in Photoshop) is 2LO Confetti 4, above which I added 2LO Confetti 9 (Multiply mode), both from 2 Lil’ Owls. The photograph looked delicious in Colour Burn mode. I tried many other blends, you can be sure, before settling on the latter.

‘What can we gain by sailing to the moon if we are not able to cross the abyss that separates us from ourselves? This is the most important of all voyages of discovery, and without it, all the rest are not only useless, but disastrous.’

The yacht photograph is by Zakhar Kleyman on Flickr, while the texture I have used in a ‘soft light’ blend (Photoshop) is by Kerstin Frank, also from Flickr. I’ve made it sound as if Flickr is a village!

This is another of my moody ocean pieces. The original photograph is one taken by Mr. FND of a small boat off the coast of west Crete. Adding the 2LO Haunting 14 texture (multiply mode in Photoshop) from 2 Lil’ Owls (bought via Design Cuts) created such a mysterious and dream-like feel to it that I wanted to do no more but display it for your delectation or otherwise!

I am way behind on uploading my images to the various galleries so this one is not yet for sale.

Take care and keep laughing!

“Tell you what we’ll do,” she said. “We’ll drive to town and get some pickles, and some bread, and we’ll eat the pickles in the car, and then we’ll go to the station and get Daddy, and then we’ll bring Daddy home and make him take us for a ride in the boat. You’ll have to help him carry the sails down. O.K.?”

A lovely customer has bought 30 of these invitations, which makes up for the cataract operation mentioned in the earlier post being cancelled.  Right now I’d prefer to be on that dhow and sailing away from the frustrations of the real world.

Take care and keep laughing!
