I wonder if people still collect postcards? I recall them being popular a while back, on shows like Antiques Roadshow. If so, they would do well to collect your ‘Theatrical’ series.

I don’t think my small collection would be worth much! I’ve either inherited or bought when I was a teenager. I’ve bought some in the last four or so years and want to buy more. x

Thanks, Sarah. I’m always fascinated to see pictures of famous performers I’ve read about but in many cases had never seen. One wishes to turn back the clock and be able to enjoy one of her performances 🙂

Wouldn’t that be marvellous. I grew up with Ellen Terry, so to speak, and the lovely lady who cleaned for us had once been something like under house parlour maid in the actress’s home. Six degrees of separation!

I know this misses the point of your post…but…her dress/costume looks truly comfortable. The first thing I often think of when looking at clothing from the 1880s is how heavy and cumbersome it looks. But this is a gown I can see myself in – perhaps for a holiday party. 😉
