“Having a little fun at my work does not make me any less of an artist, and people who appreciate truly beautiful and original creations in pottery are not frightened by innocent tomfoolery.”
—Clarice Cliff [1899-1972]
For an excellent and comprehensive overview of Clarice Cliff’s work, read Stuart Shield’s original article that contains this quote.

Yes! When I was young, I wasn’t drawn to her work but now I love it.

Clarice Cliff was definitely ahead of her time. I went to a very interesting talk about her life at the Kingston Museum sometime ago, and I do agree with her quote.
Hope you have some creative fun today. Janet:)

She certainly was and that, to me, makes her one of the most important women of the 20th century. Wishing you a creatively playful day! I shall be happy if we complete on our flat. Please keep your fingers crossed! 🙂

I love antiques programmes and I’ve seen quite a few of her works. And she dared to have fun and not just do serious grand stuff, because art should be everywhere…Great quote!

She brought affordable design into people’s homes – after the austerity of the war years it was great to have something colourful and quirky on the breakfast table.
