Violet Trefusis (née Keppel; 6 June 1894 – 29 February 1972) was an English writer and socialite. She is chiefly remembered for her lengthy affair with the poet Vita Sackville-West, which the two women continued after their respective marriages to men. Trefusis wrote novels and non-fiction works, both in English and French.
The affair was featured in novels by both parties, in Virginia Woolf’s novel Orlando: A Biography, and in many letters and memoirs of the period, roughly 1912–1922. Many are preserved at Yale University Library. Good morning dear Sarah -reading your blog is is always a lovely way to begin my day. Having grown up in Kent, not too far from Sissinghurst, I have always been interested in the goings-on of Vita Sackville-West and company, including of course Violet Trefusis. What a lovely thought that I’ve got your brain waves moving! I haven’t been to Sissinghurst since the early ’80s when I was working at the Leas Pavilion in Folkestone. I long to go again. I do remember me and another actor taking photographs of each other mimicking the poses of the statues!

Now I’m putting Sissinghurst in my list. I lived in Rodmell for a while so visited Virginia Wolfe’s house a few time and her sister’s farm but I missed that one.
