I created Screen Gold with an old piece of material (I had meant to use it on a footstool years ago). Textures are from Design Cuts and 2Lil’ Owls. Images are from EKDuncan, the Biodiversity Library on Flickr and public domain images on Wikipedia. A deal of fun was had in the process! The idea was to create a 3-sided screen-effect with a nod to the beautiful and desirable Chinese screens which were so popular in the late-19th and early 20th Century.

Long-time followers will know how fond I am of changing vintage photographs and adding a little something extra.
Vintage Notre Dame is a Photoshop-created digital adaptation of a turn of the century photograph of Notre Dame and St Michael’s Bridge (Pont Saint Michel)  The photo is in the public domain at Wikimedia and I have added two textures from Design Cuts.

Mint Julep © Sarah Vernon - Framed Print from Redbubble

In contrast to my last pictureFlying Colours — this image was created with just one piece of art from 1870: Jane, Duchess of Gordon,  by Daniel Gardner, a public domain picture from Wikimedia. I used a series of effects with Photoshop tools such as swirls, twirls and tiling as well as experimenting with colour filters. It was the greens of the Duchess’ riding habit that inspired me.

As a lover of all things maritime and a descendant of admirals and sailors, I am often drawn to centuries-old paintings of seacraft at work or play. I created Flying Colours with two images far apart in time. One layer is the Russian Squadron at Malta, 20 October 1827, painted by Alfred Gomersal Vickers which is in the public domain. The other is a photograph of Bembridge Lifeboat which I took the other day. I have melded them together using Photoshop’s various tools to make it look as if it were an original 19th-century image.

No sooner did I come across my Indian Glories piece the other day than an email arrived from Redbubble to say I’d sold a notebook with the design. I’ve tried it since with all sorts but it hasn’t worked!
