First Night Design | ‘Which is the prettiest?’

Following on from yesterday’s post about Maude Fealy, here she is again in a vintage postcard that asks, ‘Which is the prettiest of all?’ I’d say Maude!

This image is from my theatre collection and I’ve had it since my teens. Yesterday’s image was from The Graphics Fairy.

Clockwise:
Miss Phyllis Dare (1890-1975)
Miss Mabel Love (1874-1953)
Miss Edna May (1878-1948)
Miss Gabrielle Ray (1883-1973)
Miss Zena Dare (1887-1975)
Miss Maude Fealy (1883-1971)

        1. In fact, Miss Ray probably tops Miss Fealy for me when I think about it! That may be a proprietorial thing because she was British! Your site, by the way, is one after my own heart and you will see I have followed you.

          1. Miss Ray like Lily Elsie, another favourite of mine have their moments when they are stunning.

Thank you for the follow and I’m glad that you like my posts but there is a mix and I hope that some of the content doesn’t offend in any way.

            Regards

            Chris

            1. It’s pretty hard to offend me but you probably won’t find me clicking the like button on those particular posts! Ah yes, Lily Elsie. I have an edition of Play Pictorial where the front cover has Lily Elsie and Joseph Coyne in The Merry Widow. Heaven!

            2. That’s good as I’ve had a few negative comments about the mix, originally I had only intended to post my postcards but it seems to have grown lol

If you click on the Lily Elsie short cut in the category list you will see cards and programmes of her from my collection, like Miss Ray her mental health wasn’t very good.

  1. This is an intriguing idea. For as long as I can remember I’ve always had my “Star from Afar” and the names are changed with an arbitrary ruthlessness which one hopes would never be replicated in real life. Holders of this honour, which is both unknown and unregarded include Ingrid Bergmann, Emily Blunt, Audrey Hepburn and many others. Because I am essentially rotten to the core on this subject its not impossible to have more than one star from afar on the go at a time, although, naturally, I would never dream of telling either of the actresses that this unsought or honour was not there’s alone, especially as actually being alive to day is not an essential part of the system, as I was saying to Audrey just the other day. Thank you so much for stirring my imagination to new levels of madness 🙂
