Oh, how I enjoyed creating this collage with layer upon layer of vintage French ephemera from 2 Lil’ Owls via Design Cuts. The creative process brings me such joy. I came across the perfect quote yesterday about this joy but I didn’t make a note of it and I can’t remember whether I saw it on a blog post or Twitter. Here are some other quotes instead! The Picasso comes closest to a part of what I’m feeling.

“If I could say it in words there would be no reason to paint.” Edward Hopper

“Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.” Pablo Picasso

“The object of art is not to reproduce reality, but to create a reality of the same intensity.”
Alberto Giacometti

  1. I can imagine you having a lot of fun with these Sarah, I just bought a batch of letters from a brocante near here, there’s just something wonderful about old letters and handwriting isn’t there! Love the quotes too!

  2. The comment I like most is the one by Alberto Giacometti because I feel that art intensifies our sense of reality and allows to understand and recognise that which otherwise might pass us by. Not saying I’m right or wrong, but that always been my feeling about true art, which is not the same as diversion or distraction.

  3. Well, after each quote, Sarah, I felt assured that ‘that one was my favorite.’ They all three express something similar and so unique. Amazing how language can do that.
And it’s amazing how art can transform one’s emotions without uttering a word. It’s magical and spellbinding.
Here’s to all your lovely creativity!
