“Give me books, French wine, fruit, fine weather and a little music played out-of-doors by somebody I do not know.”
― John Keats

Let joy be unconfined! I have sold a cushion at Redbubble with the Vins Spiritueux design. Do you want to see the tote bag as well? Oh, well, if you insist!

Regular visitors will be familiar with my penchant for seeing my art on cushions. I’ve been at it again with some of the recent additions to my portfolio. Enjoy!

‘I do needlepoint from kits. I give them as gifts to people in the form of cushion covers and they are often speechless with horror.’
Lynne Truss, author of Eats, Shoots and Leaves.

It may or may not surprise you to know that this is, in essence, an inverted version of Japanned Butterflies. A little blending tweak here, a little blending tweak there and Bob’s your uncle!

As a prelude to a post in which I will talk about how Mr FND and I are now ex-pats, I give you an old-fashioned bon voyage. This collage was put together some time ago, inspired by the delicious leather bag you can see in the centre of the image, which Mr FND bought for me from Oxfam. Alas, though delicious, the leather is so thick and the empty bag so heavy that it’s impossible for me to use. But who cares when I can include it in my art!

Something a little different from my usual work is this flower pattern from 2009 in which I played fast and loose with the scans of a couple of scarves bought in the 1970s.

‘If you want a golden rule that will fit everybody, this is it: Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful.’
William Morris

The Musical Boy by James Thomas Fields 1817-1881

It is a ruthless, toothless wight
Who dwells beside a wall,
And spends his time in singing songs
As loud as he can bawl,
And casting stones at passengers
Who may neglect to call.

The knave deals out inflated corn
And other fluffy things,
Gum-balls and miscellaneous pies,
And doughnuts shaped like rings;
The pea-nut branch he also plies,
As all day long he sings.

“O urchin rude, of manners crude,
Of unangelic voice,
Pray tell me true, young ruffian, do,
If thus you live from choice,
Or if in your unhallowed ways
You really don’t rejoice!

“Your wares are insalubrious,
Your carols are the same,
Your bold career is fraught with fear,
Your traffic one of shame,–
A dark, mysterious, dreadful trade,
A deed without a name.

“Boy, cease your harmful, dreary notes,
And fling your goods away;
Go get you to New Zealand, or
Some cove in Baffin’s Bay:
Expenses out (but no return)
Myself will gladly pay.”

The rogue looks up with knowing leer,
And bids me not repine,
Then aims a missile at my head
With phrase that’s not divine,
And croaks a still more dismal song,–
The words, alas! are mine!

Never let it be said that my passions fade. Here are some more cushions for your delectation, some old, some new.

Let joy be unconfined! I’ve sold one of these cushions and shall be entering the weekend with a big grin on my face. A girl’s gotta eat…

What a surprise! More cushions. I can own up to all except for Humpty Dumpty, which is a delightful illustration by Mr FND — do check out his  pantomime drawings.Humpty Dumpty

No post planned. No time to do much so this is the cushion I sold today. Looks rather good on other products too, though I say so myself as shouldn’t!

I have had a relaxing Sunday morning creating new cushions for my store and enjoying every moment of it. There are certain products available at Zazzle to which I enjoy adding my art more  than others.  Cushions — or pillows, I understand, if you’re from the US — are one such. This may be because my life depends on cushions if I am to avoid serious pain and discomfort. It may also be because cushions do so much to alter a room. After all, it’s cheaper than painting or decorating if you long for a change!

This weekend I have been creating products at my First Night Design store on Zazzle with the Valley Rose design and enjoying it immensely.  I hadn’t planned a post today but I was so taken with the look of the Messenger bag that I wanted to share it.  (I can hear my late mother saying, ‘Get you! What makes you think you’re so clever?’)

With thanks to The Graphics Fairy for the original vintage rose.  Linking to Brag Monday.
