It doesn’t matter how often I watch this little video clip, it makes me laugh and empathise! The baby elephant shows the determination we all, or should, have. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off (or not, in the above case) and start all over again. It’s the only way to live life.

My laughter and my empathy are personal. My mobility is not what it was due to LcSSc so I feel more like a baby elephant trying to walk than a grown-up sure of his or her balance. I fall. I manage with quite an effort to get up and often need help. And down I fall again. So, little heffalump, I know what you’re going through. It will pass. Mine won’t! I only wish my hide was as tough as yours.

And now for a Sunday treat that makes the same point: two clips from Swing Time with Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers singing and dancing to Jerome Kern’s Pick Yourself Up.

Reblogged partly because I love The Nicholas Brothers. Forget Fred Astaire or Gene Kelly, these brothers were the tops when it came to dancing in Hollywood!

When it comes to my daily life, I have my times of fearlessness. I face DC metro commuter traffic with nary a qualm (we call it “combat driving” around here and caffeine helps), I’ve traveled solo through New England, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and other parts of the planet, and I’ve been known not to panic when the Advent wreath at my church catches on fire.

Sometimes writing this blog is a bit difficult. (!) The hardest part is to stare at the terrifying blank “Add New Post” screen and come up with something to say that’s fresh, original, entertaining and informative. My blog ideas come from books I’ve read or conversations I’ve had with my real-life people or with fellow bloggers. Sometimes, it’s just anything that occurs to me and that I think would make for an interesting blog post.
