I’m delighted to have sold two of these greeting cards. It’s a montage of British actresses from the late 19th and early 20th century from my theatrical postcard collection. Those of you interested in theatre greats will be happy to learn that Dame Ellen Terry features three times, for which I make no apology! If young actors have not heard of her, they have no right to be on the stage. [Ed. Too obstinate?] As the late Alan Rickman said — and I’m oft repeating —  “The profession should be and is a kind of relay race – about information, opinions and passions being passed on.” [Theatregoer Magazine, November 2001]

Quite a number of our friends are pregnant. Our next-door neighbour is also due to give birth at the end of the month so I am surrounded by expectant talk. A little synchronicity has been at play and I’ve just sold a print of this charming photograph of proud parents.

In this instance, the parents are actors — or should I say were, since both are long since dead. Seymour Hicks (1871-1949) and Ellaline Terriss (1871-1971) gaze fondly at their daughter, Betty, who was born in 1904.

Rogues & Vagabonds

Some of you may have known me in my previous incarnation as  the founder and editor of Rogues & Vagabonds theatre website.  Regular readers of this blog will be aware that my background is in theatre and that I was ‘born in a trunk’.  It’s all change for Rogues & Vagabonds as I have just launched the site as a blog here on WordPress.  Slowly but surely, I am transferring all the articles over here, starting with Lynne Harvey‘s review of a touring production of Jim Cartwright’s Road, originally published on 29 November 2002.  I do hope you enjoy it and feel more than tempted to start following Rogues & Vagabonds for future posts.

I know, I know, you’re thinking about Thanksgiving and Christmas and the last thing you want to think about is the New Year.  However, if you’re anything like me, it will suddenly be 26th January and you’re writing everything on Post-It notes — which you keep losing — and you still haven’t bought a calendar.  Computer calendars, it’s true, have a lot of uses but the device is never on when you need urgently to check the time of that dental appointment or the grand party you’ve been looking forward to.  And guess what?  You check your mobile and realise you didn’t sync it!

Here are my choices, which include my calendars as well as those that have caught my eye on Zazzle.
