  1. Without criticism there would be nothing to aspire to overcome.
    The rocks and trees don’t comment.
    The day and night cannot be competed with.
    We can measure ourselves against others, or against time and effort of all humanity, or we can just take some criticism and delight in growing past it.
    If it hurts greatly it is because we think too much of ourselves and have forgotten that those who look upon and judge our work are just self affirming their own opinions too.
    Today your work is good, tomorrow it will be better.

    1. I agree with the first part of your comment but I think you may be reading a little too much into O’Keefe’s words. While we all strive to be better, too often we allow the reactions of others to dictate how we feel about our own work, for good or ill. I don’t believe for one minute that being stung by another’s criticisms is because we think too much of ourselves. Not the world I inhabit at any rate. I’ve found that people who think too much of themselves are usually the most insecure or else they’re psychopaths!
