First Night Design | Harbour Parasols #Art #New

You have no idea just how peachy it has been to create a piece of art with my new vision after spending so many months re-blogging earlier pieces and promoting those which have sold. My heart and soul are leaping with joy. Just as well in view of the unconscionable state prevailing in the UK after a general election. I am reminded of my favourite quote from erstwhile US President Jimmy Carter (and there are many to choose from) which says it all when one thinks of Prime Minister Theresa May’s parentage: the daughter of a vicar no less. “If you don’t want your tax dollars to help the poor, then stop saying you want a country based on Christian values because you don’t.’

Harbour Parasols Framed Prints © Sarah Vernon [Redbubble]

The original is a photochrom from the Library of Congress of the entrance to the harbour at St. Malo in France taken between 1890 and 1900. I duplicated the image, ran the jpg through the Topaz Impressions Abstraction II filter, which I added as a third layer before topping with one of my yellow textures. I made use of a variety of Photoshop blends such as Darken, Lighter Colour and Screen.

  1. Bravo Sarah….this is such wonderful news…I can hear the joy in your voice and I love the image. As for your political observations, I concur completely….I am sick and tired of the way certain elements of our society i.e. Theresa May and Co manipulate and do anything they can to keep their bloody power. Talk about the same old cronies over and over again….they simply have to go. On that note, I plan to paint today and prepare for my Hummingbird lady from the States who will be arriving tomorrow. I also finish my last one day workshop in London on Monday. Keep making wonderful art my friend…and hopefully I will do some watercolour painting with you before this summer is out….Keep smiling Janet 🙂 xxx

    1. It’s a complete and utter joke. I’m surprised there haven’t yet been poll tax-type riots about the DUP. Sinn Fein – will they, won’t they?

I can’t wait for us to do something together. It’s warm today, warm enough for me to sit in the Pilot Boat courtyard with bare arms and drink a half of cider after a morning at the hospital for blood tests, ultrasounds and teeth x-ray! Ah, the joys of poor health! Thank you, my dear friend. Enjoy your week of visitors, workshops and hummingbirds. xxx

    1. Thank you, dear Olga. There’s something magical about the sea, isn’t there. I was just talking to an older couple about the peace and calm of Bembridge. She had been brought up in Bembridge and they had just moved back though they’re living up the road in Freshwater. I’m thrilled you think the image is gorgous!

  2. Beautiful art.
And the quote is so true. I’ve been thinking of sending Bible quotes to members of Congress…they claim to be devout Christians, but I doubt they’ve ever even opened the book…(K)

    1. I’m not religious but adhere to Christian values for want of a better adjective and have a keen sense of injustice and hypocrisy. I’m sure you’re absolutely right about those Congressmen and women. Makes me incandescent with rage. Thank you, Kerfe, for the vote of confidence in my art!

  3. Aw Sarah this beautiful piece of art just leaped off the page at me – such a wonderful and refreshing summertime scene that was kissed by the summer yellow cast. Well now aren’t you in your glory and enjoying the heck out of your new-found freedom of healthy eyes letting you work your magic. I love this piece and love that you are finally able to do what brings you such immense joy ~ I’m smiling all the way from Texas and sending you one big-sized Texas hug!!

      1. It’s satisfying, right? That is how I feel creating art – sometimes we artists experience what is called the runner’s high or as I call it an endorphin rush – almost out-of-body experience. I don’t experience it on every piece but when I do, wow!! I would imagine it is the same for you ~ here is to that awesome feeling.

        1. Absolutely the same as it is when being on stage. The difference is that with art you are in total control of the doing. As an actress, you have to bloody wait until someone decides to employ you to feel that high.
