New in my vintage store is this wonderful black & white portrait of Tallulah Bankhead.
“I’m as pure as the driven slush.”
“My father warned me about men and booze, but he never mentioned a word about women and cocaine.”
“The only thing I regret about my past is the length of it. If I had to live my life again, I’d make the same mistakes, only sooner.”

Wonderful. I have heard that she was quite a talker, even continuing conversations with friends while she was in the loo with the door open. What a great lady of character!

I love idea of making the same mistakes only sooner. I look at the length of time some if these interesting people were alive, and wished they’d lived for longer. We need their kind of restless mischief in the world to stop us dying of common sense

Smorgasbord - Variety is the Spice of Life.
Reblogged this on Smorgasbord – Variety is the spice of life and commented:
Reblogging this as much for the quotes as for the image – ‘pure as driven slush’ I hope when I get into my 90’s – one can hope – that my reputation is just a little tarnished – would be quite boring to be ‘driven snow’….

I’ve never understood what happened to restrict women in film in the mid to late 20th century, because the actresses of the early 20th century were such strong personalities. Show me the modern actress who has the combination of guts and glamour found in Bette Davis, Tallulah Bankhead, Mae West, or Lauren Bacall.
Thank you for getting me thinking.
