WordPress today announced that WP bloggers could start embedding images from  the Getty archive. I had to take advantage immediately.

Why elephants? Inspired by an illustration in a recent post from Violet’s Vegan E-Comics, I knew it was time to do another design featuring elephants. I am devoted to these magnificent creatures and would, all things being equal, like a baby heffalump that, like Peter Pan, never grows up but provides endless pleasure in my garden.

My experiments over the last few days with a public domain elephant and various textures have not produced the effect I was searching for…yet. In fact, the experiment turned into something else entirely, which I will show tomorrow. In the meantime, this is the elephant artwork I created three years ago.

And here’s a delicious quote from The House at Pooh Corner: Chapter 5 . In which Piglet meets a heffalump.

‘One day, when Christopher Robin and Winnie-the-Pooh and Piglet were all talking together, Christopher Robin finished the mouthful he was eating and said carelessly: “I saw a Heffalump to-day, Piglet.”

“What was it doing?” asked Piglet.

“Just lumping along,” said Christopher Robin. “I don’t think it saw me.”

“I saw one once,” said Piglet. “At least, I think I did,” he said. “Only perhaps it wasn’t.”

“So did I,” said Pooh, wondering what a Heffalump was like.

“You don’t often see them,” said Christopher Robin carelessly.

“Not now,” said Piglet.

“Not at this time of year,” said Pooh.’

Take care and keep laughing!
