Saint Patrick was a gentleman
Who through strategy and stealth
Drove all the snakes from Ireland
Here’s a drinkee to his health!
But not too many drinkees
Lest we lose ourselves and then…
Forget the good Saint Patrick
And see them snakes again!

I often fancy myself in Edwardian or late Victorian dress. The above are too fussy for me but that wouldn’t stop me from trying one on. Yes, how different life was. It reminds me of Phil Jupitus on The News Quiz following one of Jeremy Hardy’s riffs about how life used to be: “Yes, I’ve always wanted rickets too.” he said.

Love the cards, the poem, and the discussion! I think the clothes might be amusing for one day but not sure I’d have the patience… It must have taken hours to get ready!

That is a downside! I’ve done a couple of Restoration plays and that was a nightmare, especially when I was in The Country Wife and was tripped up by a hole in the skirt of my costume!

I want a bonnet like that! beautiful card, Sarah.
Sorry, I couldn’t help but laugh at your comment above re rickets even though it is no laughing matter. Apparently (and this has nothing to do with St Patrick’s Day) there have been cases of rickets again in the UK due to the fact that children spend too much time inside watching tv or playing on their computers and not enough time outside getting their vitamin D. A veritable mine of information I am this morning 😀

You were meant to laugh! And I know rickets are back but from what I’ve read, it has much more to do with the poverty created by the coalition than anything else.

I’m sure that plays a part in it too.
